My First Attempt at Cooking

I was introduced to poetry in 7th Std and I knew this is what I like. I wrote this poem in the holidays. We were supposed to write some article but I thought of giving my poetry skills a shot. So, the poem went into the Holiday Homework (sometimes interesting and challenging, but mostly rejetted stuff, which every PSBBian has to go through till 10th. The best thing was that nobody ever cared to submit it, unless the teacher is real pestering or if we actually like what we have done). So, my first poem went into my holiday homework notebook, never came back to me again, nor attracted any comments as even the teachers have plenty to do rather than sit and tick our holiday homework. Luckily, I had saved a copy in a old notebook.

My mother asked me to cook
For a day
And so I referred the cooking book
As I was at bay

To my surprise
I found a coupon for a cooking prize
I told my mother
For I considered her a good cook
But she asked me not to bother
And take a dish to my father.

I started on a dish proudly
As I considered myself highly
I bought some grapes in a basket
From the crowded market
For decorating the cake
Which was not fully baked

I finished the item
At last, with great difficulty
But it looked like post mortem
And I felt guilty
Of not knowing how to cook.

Much to my surprise
I got the first prize
Not as the best
But as the worst
Anyway, I was full of joy
At what I accomplished as a boy
And this made me try
Again and again
Till I gain
The success of cooking.
